Coordinate questions reward careful reading of axes: x across, y up. Papers ask children to plot points, name a point, find a missing vertex of a shape, or reflect a point in a mirror line on the grid. The classic error is swapping x and y. Teach “along the corridor, up the stairs” and have children say the pair aloud before plotting. Independent papers sometimes combine coordinates with symmetry. Practise on squared paper so spacing stays honest, and always check the scale of each axis before counting squares. When a shape is incomplete, plot the known points first, then use side-length or symmetry clues to find the missing vertex.
